I wrote up some house rules for b/x.

Check it out here.

Let me know what you think! What house rules do you use for your osr games?

Big ones for me lately have been:

  • Ability Scores: 3d6 in order (up or down the list)
  • Prime Requisite XP Bonus: Inverted (low scores grant +)
  • Damage: Class HD (no weapon restrictions outside of Cleric prohibitions)
  • Thief Abilities: use the Turn Undead Table
  • Hit Points: Re-rolled each day or at the start of Combat
  • Death: At 0 HP, player rolls 2d6, chooses which one is Ability Score and which on is damage.
  • Scrolls: Holmes '77 Scroll rules for M-Us
  • Mapping: Plain looseleaf (Dwarfs get Graph Paper)
  • Dice: Any die that leaves the table is treated as the worst possible result

Haha I love this!

Everyone lights up a candle in front of them when they’re wielding a torch, puts it out when they’re not. Could use matchsticks to track number of torches in dungeon crawling games.
