Kobold/Gnoll Appreciation Thread!

Kobold and Gnoll are dungeon synth projects from the label Heimat Der Katastrophre which aim to provide OSR-themed music - and the cassettes come with little dungeons! I can’t speak to the quality of the dungeons, as I don’t own a cassette player, but listening to the music digitally has brought me much inspiration, and the song titles are always very evocative - it feels a lot like being in a very immersive early '90s CRPG.

And come on, that cover art.

HUGE fan of Kobold and Gnoll! I recently started produced dungeon synth myself and both of them are huge inspirations. HDK (their label as you mentioned) has so many amazing releases, hoping to work with them some day.

If you enjoy either Kobold or Gnoll, I would also suggest Fiendish Imp and Dryads, they follow the same dark tone that really invokes the dungeon crawling vibes. Another amazing producer in the same genre but aims for a more mythical, world building sound would be Quest Master - I can’t sing this guy’s praises loud enough. And just like Kobold, LOOK AT THAT COVER ARTWORK! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lklHS1G9E-M

Want to send me any of your dungeon synth? I’m always on the lookout for new music and I very much respect that you were able to mention it in a comment without plugging yourself, something I am often unable to do.

Came expecting classic monsters. Received rad dungeon synth. Love Kobold/Gnoll actually (especially the little tape they did for Mörk Borg). I have used the Alder Deep/Tales of Alder Deep projects from Alderen as background music for my sessions before and they are probably some of my favorite dungeon synth:

Love Kobold! As well as Fiendish Imp and Old Sorcery! I’ve used them for inspiration when writing and as background music. Made some spotify playlists for different moods of fantasy dungeony goodness, using a lot of these 3 artists.
